Choose a Template for a Windows Folder

Windows XP has several preset templates that you can use for folders. These templates define how files stored in the folder are displayed and what tasks are shown in the left column of the folder. There are templates designed for pictures, music, videos and general documents. For example, the "Pictures" template will display images stored in the folder in the form of thumbnails and show image specific tasks such as "View as slide show" and "Print pictures".
You can set the most suitable template for a folder's contents at any time by accessing the folder's Properties.

Here's How:

1. Right-click on the folder's icon and select "Properties". A Properties window specific to that folder will open.

2. Click the "Customize" tab and select the desired template from the "Use this folder type as a template" list.

3. Click "OK" to save the change and exit the Properties window.

The folder should now display contents and tasks in accordance with the template chosen. You can also access the folder's Properties and switch templates from within a folder by clicking "View" and then "Customize this folder".
